Powder Coat Painting:

The SMC powder coat line is capable of painting parts made in-house as well as parts for paint-only customers.  The system incorporates a multi-stage spray wash and clean pretreatment system fed by an overhead conveyor.  After cleaning, parts enter a forced air dry-off oven, pass through an environmental chamber where the powder is applied, and finally pass through the (240 foot long) convection cure oven. Our system is designed to coat both medium and high volume parts efficiently using both manual and automatic equipment.

Powder is a dry coating. Instead of being dissolved or suspended in a liquid medium, such as solvent or water, powder is applied in a granular form. This material is finer than ground pepper but coarser than flour, and is applied directly to the surface to be coated through an electrostatic spray process. The paint is cured through heat cycling in a convection furnace.

Because the powder is applied dry, the paint that "spills" onto the deck of the spray booth can be recovered and reused ensuring that waste is minimized.

Powder coating produces a high specification coating which is relatively hard and abrasion resistant. Increasingly stringent environmental regulations, rising costs in all areas, and demands by consumers for better quality and more durable products are among the challenges solved by Powder coating applications.
